UK new car registrations in September hit 312,887, a 13.7% year-on-year increase, making it the best September since 2020
-
For the first time, electrified vehicles (battery EVs + plug-in hybrids) made up more than half of all registrations
-
Battery electric vehicle (BEV) registrations alone rose 20.8% YoY, reaching 69,569 units
-
Tesla’s UK registrations were almost flat — about 8,038 units, just a 0.11% increase year-on-year
-
Meanwhile, BYD sold 11,271 vehicles in the UK in September (versus 1,150 last year), lifting its market share to 3.6%, making the UK its largest international market
-
The rise is being supported by the UK government’s EV discount scheme (up to £3,750 for eligible models)
